Sharing the Latest in Coastal Engineering
Last week, scientists and engineers from across Australia came together in the Sunshine Coast to attend the 50th bi-annual Australasian Coasts and Ports Conference. The event was a great success with 460 delegates and 160 presentations. A true wealth of information was presented and discussed.
“Working Together” was the theme of the conference and given the escalation of coastal challenges, it is more important than ever to openly discuss and integrate our collective knowledge at forums such as these.
Some of our team were in attendance, presenting their impressive work in coastal engineering and science:
- Michael Miloshis presented on “Improvements to dredge material management for the Port of Melbourne”
- Gildas Colleter presented on “Pattern placement for rock armour: theory and practices, parametric design and examples”
- Christopher Beadle presented on “Mollymook Beach: A South Coast Case Study in Beach Rotation”
- Toby Devlin presented on “The Point Richards rock groyne for deflecting seagrass wrack”
- Karl Illich presented on “A practitioner’s review of Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Planning (CHRMAP)”
Toby Devlin, was a joint winner of the PIANC “Young Professional Award” at the conference! Toby received great feedback on his presentation – congratulations Toby.
Gildas Colleter, our National Practice Lead of Coasts and Marine, was one of the nominees for the Best Presentation of the Conference – the “Kevin Stark Award”. We thank Gildas for his ongoing contribution to the industry and his assistance with organisation of the conference.
We look forward to continuing the conversation in the areas of coastal processes, coastal management, nature based solutions and coastal infrastructure design and participation at the next conference in Adelaide in 2025.
