Water Technology has provided waterway management and design services within the Waterways and Ecology Group for the past 13 years.  Our growing Waterways and Ecology team consults to the public and private sectors, both on stand-alone projects and collaboratively with our other technical disciplines (Floodplain, Stormwater, Coastal, Groundwater) across Australia.   Our waterway engineers and scientists have a particular focus and reputation for providing specialised services in the assessment, interpretation and management of waterway, wetland, floodplain, and coastal environments.  We focus on these water-related environments to provide specialised advice and solutions both to our groups internally and to our clients directly.

The role

We seek an experienced Waterway Engineer/Scientist to join the Waterways and Ecology Group in Melbourne to help grow our existing Victorian regional operation and to develop and service those capabilities across Australia.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality expert advice and managing stakeholders internally & externally
  • Tendering, performance and delivery of technical waterway investigations, reporting and design projects
  • Managing your own projects with support from other teams as needed
  • Working on exciting and innovative technical reports
  • Being an active team member for shared group projects across the business
  • Actively seek project opportunities with clients.

The right team member will have:

  • 5-10 years’ experience and exposure to the consultancy/ professional services industry
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (degree or postgraduate degree) in the engineering or environmental sciences.
  • Advanced technical skills, including fluvial geomorphic and waterway engineering design principles
  • A positive attitude to make a difference and work as part of an integrated team
  • To have the knowledge, energy and imagination to provide the best environmental outcomes while achieving our clients’ requirements
  • The ability and desire to undertake fieldwork, occasionally for extended periods.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to articulate technical and descriptive information both verbally and within reports
  • Strong communications skills that allow you to effectively convey messages with a range of audiences including colleagues, clients, landholders and the general public
  • High-level computer skills for report preparation (word processing and spreadsheets) while experience in GIS and statistical methods is desirable
